Last season round-up
I’m sorry to say that a few of us Reds have been feeling a little cocky recently. Last season on paper looks great, semi-finals of the European Cup, Cup Final and league champions all with a young team that can only improve.I’m not so sure.
I have had a nagging feeling over the last twelve months that we’ve been getting our fair share of luck and I am not, in all honesty, completely convinced yet that we are the best team in the country.Let me tell you why.
First and foremost we haven’t done Chelsea over since Mourinho arrived. Not properly, not looking like we were outclassing them. I am afraid that Fletcher’s deflection at Old Trafford doesn’t count for me and last season again we seemed to be showing them a bit too much respect, even a hint of fear. Fair enough they are an awesome opponent but I was bitterly, bitterly disappointed by the way we approached the cup final and in all honesty we didn’t come close (with the exception of Rooney) to looking like we deserved to win it. Neither did they but they’re happy to win playing boreball, we are United.
Why, then, did we come out of last year smelling of roses?Quite simply because Mr C.Ronaldo was playing some of the best football Old Trafford has seen in the last 30 years. He really has everything, two feet, a strong header he’s built like a JCB now and he could probably leave Lewis Hamilton for dead over a decent sized straight. What’s more, and what’s even more important, is that every time you go to watch him he will do something that makes the cost of the ticket worth it, even at the new Glazer prices. Now that’s saying something.
